Bird’s nest triggers house fire

A poorly designed bird’s nest was blamed for a house fire at 1629 Diamond Loop in the Toad Lake area Tuesday night.
Whatcom County Fire District No. 4 spokeswoman Geri Chumley said firefighters responding to the fire report found that the nest, built over a seldom-used outdoor light, had reached the combustion point when the light was turned on Tuesday.
Chumley said fire fighters extinguished the blaze in time to save the home from serious damage, but the bird’s nest was a total loss.
